PITCH

CBS ALL ACCESS + CBS STUDIOS

In 2019, I pitched the CBS All Access (now Paramount+) original series That Animal Rescue Show to premiere at SXSW. While the pitch was accepted, SXSW was canceled due to the pandemic.

CBS All Access and CBS Studios would like to hold the world premiere of That Animal Rescue Show, a 10-episode docuseries created by Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning Austinite, Richard Linklater (Boyhood), and Dr. Phil’s Stage 29 Productions, at SXSW 2020. Following the world premiere, we’d like to host a panel discussion featuring Linklater, bringing SXSW attendees into the cinematic parallel universe he’s created during his prosperous career; he’ll further discuss the new series coming to CBS All Access during this exclusive panel and share personal anecdotes from making his first TV docuseries. A salute to his artistry’s home, That Animal Rescue Show takes place in Austin and can be considered a window into a forward-looking, progressive society. From a Pig Sanctuary that allows the “underdogs” of the animal world to live in peace, to a ranch focused on rescue animals curing children plagued by disability like Autism, Linklater takes us through the Beto-loving oasis that’s surrounded by hostile Cruz conservatives, delving into the personal drama of those who inhabit it. While a documentary by definition, the production will have a stylistic nod to Linklater’s critically acclaimed Bernie, dynamically combining cleverly staged interviews and cinema-vérité. We want to celebrate the debut of this production and the legacy of storytelling brought to us by Richard Linklater in the town that underlines it. There’s no better audience to understand the unique landscape and quirky residents of Austin that Linklater brilliantly and truthfully spotlights in this series than that of SXSW.
